Anatomy is a 3D subject matter with spaces, structures, and tissues difficult to fully appreciate in 2D renderings of textbooks, digital images, and powerpoint slides. To assist in anatomy instruction I have leveraged various 3D sculpting programs to create novel anatomical models and visualizations.

Methods

Most models have been made using Adobe Medium in a Virtual Reality (VR) headset. These models specifically were created using an Oculus Rift S. Medium has a shallow learning curve and is ideal for users unfamiliar with complex 3D modeling modalities. However, access to and familiarity with VR headsets and the computing power necessary to run Medium may be prohibitive. More simplified models have been created using Paint3D preset studio in Windows 10, though this program is limited in features and models cannot be further edited.

I am always exploring new visualization options that allow for quick and accurate representations of anatomical spatial relationships and forms that are accessible to educators without formal 3D modeling training or experience and am happy to collaborate to test another resource out.
